The options are endless when it comes to the world of fabrics. We have an amazing selection of fabric houses in South Africa that all supply wonderful ranges of both local and imported fabrics.

The vast array of options can be somewhat daunting and people often don’t know where to begin!

We suggest choosing one feature fabric, whether it be a print or a specific colour that speaks to you. Use this as your base and from there the rest of the fabrics will fall into place. You want to choose fabrics that compliment this feature fabric, with their colour, print or texture.

The most common size for a scatter cushion is 60 x 60cm. But quite honestly - any size goes as long as they have a feather inner and you Karate chop the top when styling!

Decor styling can be somewhat an art if you will. Here are a few of our key golden rules to guide you.

The best starting point is to work with odd numbers, groups of three work really well. You then want to have variations in height, texture and shape.

An example would be : Styling a coffee table with a vase, planter or tall ornament, 2 or 3 large coffee table books stacked and a group of candles.

Have some fun with it! There isn’t much that can go wrong!

Paint is the most under-rated way or refreshing a room. It is an affordable and easy exercise that really transforms a space. A feature wall is always a croud pleaser. But lets not forget your main internal colour, if this is wrong it really dates your space.

Here are a few of our go to internal wall colours :

  • Plascon Mandarin Tusk

  • Plascon Plaster

  • Plascon Landing

  • Dulux Chiffon White

  • Dulux Dusted Moss

  • Midas Almost There

When choosing a wall paint, we always suggest to our clients that they put samples up in different areas of the space. As light has different effects on the colour. This will help you make the best decision.

Layering is literally the best styling tool! It adds personality and depth to any space. Here are a few ideas to try at home, to give your space a finished look.

  • A throw over a bed or a couch

  • A candle or decor piece on top of a stack of magazines or coffee table books

  • Trinkets within a tray on a stack of books

  • A feature rug on top or a larger plain rug

  • Side stools or an ottoman next to a coffee table

  • A basket with a plant on top of a tall cabinet

  • A plant on your bathroom vanity

All we can say is, don’t be shy to fill your walls! They are literally begging to be “decorated” with art, prints, photos, straw hats, mirrors, wall baskets. Having pieces on your walls adds character to your home and brings out your personality.

The position of art in its space is crucial to its affect on the interior. People often hang their art way to high or too far apart.

When hanging art, a rule of thumb is to hang them about a fist apart, between 60 - 100mm. With regards to the height, you want the centre of the art to be eye level, this is about 1500mm from the floor.
